NINJA

September 2013

This is a pop art I did of NINJA from the band, Die Antwoord (Dee An Twerd) and I was really proud of how it turned out. I used Adobe Photoshop to make this image and it was the first thing I made this year. I think my pop art skills have improved since sophomore year and I am really excited to have a better understanding of paths and the pen tool.

Little Deer

October 2013

This deer was made with Corel Painter and I was really happy with the impressionist brushes and how many different colors you can achieve with a few strokes. The background was done by using watercolor and then the squares were done with a sponge brush and I thought it looked a bit like snow. I think it looks very cute for my first try with this type of brush.

Grassy Area

September 2013

I made this grassy area in Corel Painter and was quite happy with how all the different brushes were used and how they looked together; however, I was not too happy with how the sun's reflection on the water. The lake was created using watercolor and I am still getting the hang of that. Overall I am really happy with the result.

Background Image

October 2013

Necessity is the mother of invention they say, and I was in the need of a background image that was not someone else's artwork. Sure I could have used some non-copyright image or a generic one, but this website is displaying MY art. So, with this I went into Corel Painter and filled a background with color and then used the wet and dry splatter brushes in the water color category and just had some fun.

Cheshire

October 2013

Okay, this image was created using the online program Scribbler Too

This program is interesting to say the least. Firstly, let me say this: YOU CAN NOT ERASE. You get one undo, but sometimes it does not work the way you thought. Also, messing in brush settings before you start your drawing might save some frustration. I found that changing the radius is really all you need to do for most drawings. Another thing: you can trace images and save your work, but only use images that are copyright free/ for artistic use (use Google’s advanced image search).

This program is really fun and I want to continue making things with it.

Skull

November 2013

This skull was done in Scribbler Too and I could not believe that I did it without erasing. I love the shading on this piece because the first image I created using this program didn’t have a lot of shading. I also love how creepy it looks!

Little Butterfly

November 2013

The image on the right was created by using Scribbler Too and the image on the left was the same image, but I went into Corel Painter and used the grainy wet brush in the real watercolor palettes to create these beautiful translucent colors.

I was really happy with the result and I think I have finally found a way to incorporate the creepy with the colorful. I think I will study more on Tim Burton and his art style so I can learn about how to make a “creepy” drawing something with depth and beauty.

Rose Cage

December 2013

For some reason an interest in water color started up and I wanted to incorperate it into my Scribbler Too drawings. I used Corel Painter to make some really cool designs in the roses. I downloaded brushes from Skip Allen and the final piece was really cool. There is also a lyric from the song, "Spirit of the Stairwell" by Circa Survive and I felt that it really went along with the tone of the whole picture.
